This dictionary project has grown out of a university language course. It is highly experimental in nature. Over the time, it was also used as a test-bed for the development of the Viennese Lexicographic Editor (VLE) and semi-automatic data acquisition for digital dictionaries.
The focus in compiling the dictionary has been on contemporary language. In the beginning, all lexical items needed in the classes were entered into the dictionary. Later we started to integrate data not available in other dictionaries. Particular attention has been paid to neologisms such as 'street bump', 'virtual reality', 'hard disk', 'charger' (of a mobile) which can not be found in most of the usually older print dictionaries. For the time being, we do not attempt to achieve anything like a complete coverage.
As of 15.10.2018 the dictionary contains 10.269 released records.
Usage examples are adapted from various sources, for the most part coming from the Internet. Of particular importance is a Wikipedia version which we have made available as a TEI corpus. You can access the 'fawiki' corpus here: https://wikipedias.eos.arz.oeaw.ac.at/run.cgi/first_form.
Through the query interface, you can search for words or groups of words in the dictionary. By simply entering a word such as fārsi and pressing the button "Submit!" (alternatively, you can press the ENTER button) you will retrieve results from any index. Results matching your query will be displayed below the input field.

Simple wildcards can also be used.

It is also possible to combine query terms. If you use more than one term each of them has to be put in square brackets with the + (plus) sign in between. Mind that inside of brackets [...] you have to identify the fields.

Mind that all queries are case sensitive. `en=house´ and `en=House´ will yield different results.
